Old Navy Announces 'Operation Old Navy'

Old Navy Stores Team Up with Operation: Care and Comfort to Support our Deployed Troops

SAN JOSE, CA — “Operation Old Navy” began in April 2009, with a few San Francisco Bay Area stores collecting items for the Operation: Care and Comfort military care package program, also based in the area. Old Navy customers were invited to bring hot weather items such as sunscreen, unscented baby wipes, and entertainment items of DVDs, video games, and more to the participating stores to receive a discount on their purchase. Customers also purchased in store items such as socks, underwear and tees for the troops.

As a result, 211 Old Navy stores throughout the Western U.S. will now be participating in “Operation Old Navy” from July 1st – 5th. “Old Navy has long been a friend to our military, offering a discount to all military personnel on the first day of each month, when they present their military I.D. in the store. In addition, these donation drives are sending a message to our deployed troops that Old Navy supports them when they are deployed, and will continue when they return home,” said Julie DeMaria, co founder of the all volunteer organization Operation: Care and Comfort.

Old Navy stores in Missouri, Iowa, Indianapolis, Colorado, Arkansas, Kansas, Memphis, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Nebraska, Northern California, Nevada, and New Mexico will participate. Customers will be asked to bring items and sign notes for the troops; all who participate will receive a discount off of their purchase.

“Old Navy is honored to work with Operation: Care and Comfort. This event is the perfect opportunity to bring our store teams together with the people in their communities. We’re proud to give back to the troops who serve our country proudly overseas.” Jeff Kirwan, Senior Vice President Stores and Store Operations.

Additional information, including discount coupon and participating store information, will be posted at www.operationcareadncomfort.org.

July 1st - 4th, 2009
